Projected Percentage of Residents over 62
As the Baby-Boomers age, the percentage of the population over age 62 will increase overall. However, the elderly will not be spread out evenly across the states. Some states will end up with more than their share, meaning that they will have higher costs in services for the elderly, especially health care.
This statistic measures the projected population of age 62 and older from 2004 to 2030. As with all projections, these data have the potential to be unreliable, especially as one gets further from the present. These data are available from the U.S. Bureau of the Census at http://www.cnesus.gov/population/projections/DownldFIle2.xls.
