June 10, 2009 - The number of jobs in America’s emerging clean energy economy grew nearly two and a half times faster than overall jobs between 1998 and 2007, according to a new report by The Pew Charitable Trusts.

Defaulting on the Dream
April 16, 2008 - Defaulting on the Dream projects that one in 33 current U.S. homeowners may be headed toward foreclosure in the coming years because of subprime loans.  The report showcases states’ efforts to address this crisis by helping borrowers avoid foreclosure and keep their homes, and by preventing problematic loans from being made in the first place.  The report is supplemented by fact sheets for all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Grading the States 2008 Report
March 03, 2008 - As a vital component of Pew’s efforts to foster effective solutions to some of America’s most pressing challenges, the Government Performance Project’s Grading the States 2008 report is an assessment of the quality of management in the 50 states. The report’s findings, developed in partnership with Governing Magazine, are generated from extensive interviews and surveys of state-level managers and opinion leaders.

One in 100: Behind Bars in America 2008
February 28, 2008 - A new report by Pew's Public Safety Performance Project details how, for the first time in history, more than one in every 100 adults in America are in jail or prison—a fact that significantly impacts state budgets without delivering a clear return on public safety.

Report: Promises with a Price
December 17, 2007 - States have promised at least $2.73 trillion in pension, health care and other retirement benefits for public employees over the next three decades, according to a report released by the Pew Center on the States. Promises with a Price, the first 50-state analysis of its kind, finds that states have saved enough to cover about 85 percent of their long-term pension costs, but only three percent of the funds needed for promised retiree health care and other non-pension benefits.

Votes Count: Legislative Action on Pre-K Fiscal Year 2008
October 24, 2007 - In fiscal year 2008, high-quality, voluntary, state-funded pre-kindergarten again received substantially increased financial and legislative support from lawmakers in the majority of states. New state pre-k funding exceeds $525 million, an increase of more than 12 percent over FY07 expenditures, bringing total state investments in early education across the country to $4.8 billion.

Climate Change 101, Understanding and Responding to Global Climate Change
September 17, 2007 - In an effort to inform the climate change dialogue, the Pew Center on the States and the Pew Center on Global Climate Change developed a series of brief reports titled Climate Change 101: Understanding and Responding to Global Climate Change. These reports provide a reliable and understandable introduction to climate change. They cover climate science and impacts, technological solutions, business solutions, international action, recent action in the U.S. states and action taken by local governments. The overview serves as a summary and introduction to the series.

Investing in Innovation
July 24, 2007 - Investing in Innovation, a new report from the Pew Center on the States and the National Governors Association (NGA), shows that with the federal government’s share of research and development (R&D) funding on the decline, states are stepping in by placing pools of money in R&D funds to stir innovation and create new jobs. The report is the first to catalog the breadth of activity in the states, and to offer guidelines for governors on how to ensure that public resources are well spent.
