Texas Impact Assessment Brief

This brief is part of a series for state policymakers interested in following what happened in states that applied a justice reinvestment strategy to increase public safety and reduce spending on corrections.

The report reviews the situation the Texas legislature faced in 2007; the policies lawmakers enacted; the extent to which policies enacted in 2007 have been implemented; trends in the prison, parole, and probation population since 2007; projections for the prison population beyond 2009; and the challenges the Texas Legislature faces in 2009.
