07/08/2010 - One of the roles of the Pitt County Health Department is to improve the well-being and overall health of our community’s families and young children. To do this, the department dedicated itself to finding and implementing a program we believed would not only help ensure healthy babies, but also target young parents that often find themselves facing an unplanned pregnancy or a newborn they’re not sure how to care for.
One year ago, the Pitt County Health Department enrolled its first mother into Nurse-Family Partnership, a program that has become the cornerstone of our ability to improve the health of mothers and babies.

There are currently 10 counties in the state that are implementing NFP, including Pitt. We are supported by a public-private partnership of organizations that includes: The Duke Endowment, The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, the BCBSNC Foundation, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health, the North Carolina Partnership for Children, Inc., Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, the NFP National Service Office and the Pew Center on the States.
